Whether it’s in economics, politics, or wider society, there’s a debate about capitalism versus socialism; but I don’t really think that’s what’s happening. If you look at the populist undercurrents around the world- it’s really about walls & bridges. When there are big changes in the economy – like globalisation or technological change, the simple thing to tell voters is, ‘we’ll build a wall to protect you against those changes…’ what you really need however, is bridges.

Vikas was awarded an MBE for Services to Business and the Economy in the Queen's 2018 New Year's Honours List. In 2021, he became a Deputy Lieutenant of the Greater Manchester Lieutenancy. He holds an Honorary Professorship of Business at The Alliance Business School, University of Manchester, an Honorary Professorial Fellowship at Lancaster University Management School (LUMS), and was awarded an Honorary Doctorate in Business Administration from the University of Salford in 2022.
