It's not really about the earrings, tapping the door frame, or taking the same route to an event. These are just manifestations of anxiety creeping in. If it was obvious that things were already being done in a great way that couldn't be improved? There wouldn't be any need for entrepreneurs to step-in and create new ways of doing things that don't rely on the baggage of the past.

Younger generations, by contrast, trust based on how someone makes them feel. And you can manipulate that incredibly effectively in 15 seconds of video: the music, the mood, the atmosphere.
Our brains are adept at concealing our motives from ourselves, convincing us that we are not as interested in status as we might actually be. This self-deception, paradoxically, enhances our ability to argue our lack of interest in status, which, in turn, can ironically increase our standing within the social group. People are drawn to this perceived humility, further entrenching the intricate and ironic dance of status within human society.
We should be looking at our regrets not as meaningless, debilitating phenomena but as signals, information, and data. If we do that systematically? We can use this emotion as a transformative force for progress.
